Established in 1862, New Caney is a historic community with roughly 20,000 residents. Found in Montgomery County, Texas, New Caney is a part of the Houston-The Woodlands- Sugar Land Metro Area. The community is unincorporated, although a post office is located here, and the area is served by the New Caney Independent School District. Local New Caney High School is found here, and the school district has also partnered with Lone Star College since 1981.
There are many interesting places to visit in New Caney and the surrounding area. Big Rivers Waterpark offers the largest play structure in Texas as well as a wave pool, water slides, and a lazy river. Visitors who prefer to recreate out of the water might like to take a walk or a hike at Bull Sallas Park and the Lake Houston Wilderness Park. Shopping is plentiful in New Caney at the Valley Ranch Town Center as well as big name retailers like Walmart and Dollar General. The wet season runs from April to October and includes hot, humid conditions. From June through September, high temperatures often reach into the 90s, and high dew points may make it feel even warmer.
