Located in Harris County, Texas, Humble is a growing city with about 15,200 residents as of 2010. This community was part of the oil boom in the early 1900s, and by 1905, the Humble oilfield became the largest oilfield in the state. It should be no surprise that petroleum is the basis of the city’s economy, and the city was previously home to Humble Oil, which later became Exxon. The Humble Independent School District serves the community, and it includes three elementary schools, a middle school, and four high school options. The Lone Star College System also has a presence here.
There are many things to see and do in Humble. The DeLorean Motor Company, which creates the popular DeLorean sports car featured in Back to the Future, has its last remaining factory in Humble. The Shell Houston Open is played at the Golf Club of Houston, which is located near Humble in an unincorporated area. Despites the community’s proximity to major urban areas, outdoor recreation is plentiful here at Mercer Arboretum and Botanic Gardens and the Jesse H. Jones Park and Nature Center. Families with children may like to visit Old MacDonald’s Farm, while shopaholics should stop by the Deerbrook Mall.
